On Rare Disease Day, we stand in solidarity with the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease. Today, Sarcoma Cancer Ireland is proud to mark this important occasion by launching our Strategic Plan 2026–2028 — a bold roadmap to strengthen support, advocacy, and awareness for sarcoma patients and families across Ireland.

As a volunteer-led charity founded by patients and carers, lived experience remains at the heart of everything we do. This three-year strategy sets out a clear vision: to ensure that no sarcoma patient in Ireland feels lost or alone.

Our Focus for 2026–2028

Over the next three years, our work will centre on three core pillars:

Education

Driving earlier diagnosis through increased public awareness and enhanced medical education.

Advocacy

Strengthening national representation and improving treatment pathways for sarcoma patients.

Support

Expanding financial and psychosocial supports for patients and their families.

Key Priorities

To deliver on this vision, we will:

  • Expand counselling services across the island of Ireland
  • Develop a corporate fundraising strategy to support initiatives such as a nurse-led support line
  • Deepen collaboration with medical teams and researchers, nationally and internationally
  • Increase awareness among medical students and allied healthcare professionals
  • Strengthen governance and committee structures to support sustainable growth

Each of these priorities is designed to build stronger systems of care and ensure patients receive the timely diagnosis, treatment, and support they deserve.

A Shared Commitment

Sarcoma is rare, but the impact on individuals and families is profound. By working in partnership with healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, corporate partners, and supporters, we can drive meaningful change.

Rare Disease Day reminds us that while conditions may be rare, the need for equity in healthcare is universal.
