Sarcoma is a rare cancer that develops in the supporting or connective tissues of the body such as muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, blood vessels, and fat. It accounts for only 1% of all cancers diagnosed, and every person is at equal risk. The most common symptom is a lump that is increasing in size, often mistaken for harmless cysts or lipomas, while non-visible tumours may present as unexplained, recurring pain that is frequently misattributed to muscle strain or sports injuries. Early detection by a GP can significantly improve outcomes.
