Sarcoma Cancer Ireland is proud to be a member of the SPAGN organisation (Sarcoma Patient Advocacy Global Network). More than 60 member groups from 5 continents gather under the umbrella of SPAGN, providing a common, international and influential patient voice for sarcoma patients around the globe.
The 14th annual SPAGN conference was held in Rome, Italy in April 2024 and Irish sarcoma patients were represented by SCI Board Members Kelli Appezzato and Carol Haslam.
During the 3 day event, attendees engaged in dynamic discussions, presentations, and workshops covering a wide range of topics aimed at enhancing sarcoma patient care and advocacy efforts. From keynote speeches to interactive sessions, the conference provided valuable insights and networking opportunities for all participants.
Key highlights included sessions on cutting-edge topics like real-world data, molecular diagnostics, patient involvement in clinical trials, and the role of artificial intelligence in sarcoma research. Dedicated tracks delved into the latest developments in soft tissue, bone, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors, among others. The event also showcased the SPAGN Advocacy in Action Awards, honoring impactful projects in patient support, research, and awareness.
The conference concluded with the Annual General Meeting, where the SPAGN Board outlined strategic priorities for the future, including expanding outreach and improving early diagnosis. Participants left inspired and empowered, equipped with actionable insights and a renewed commitment to improving outcomes for sarcoma patients worldwide. Recordings of the sessions are available on the SPAGN YouTube channel.
